Welcome to 4S!

Dear Fourth Grade Families,

I hope this letter finds you and your family healthy and enjoying this summer. I think the weather has been perfect for all sorts of summer activities, and I look forward to hearing about how you have spent your time.

I have had a very busy summer, spending one week camping in the Adirondacks, one week at the beach in Cape May, and many days at Zoom Flume with Calleigh and Mac. I hope to spend the rest of the summer working in the classroom and around my house. I can’t wait to hear about your family and your summer fun.

One of the most exciting aspects for the new fourth graders is locker assignments. I have sent your student’s locker number and combination. Within the first few days of school we will practice, practice, practice, until we can all open our lockers. I will always have a list of combinations should anyone forget theirs, and remember, we are all here to help each other. You may want to add some magnetic accessories to the inside of your locker to help make it your own.

Within the first few weeks of school, I will begin sending updates home about our classroom and your student’s progress. It is my hope that these notes will begin a basis of communication that I feel is very important between families and school. We’ll discuss what is happening in the classroom, your child’s progress, ways you can support learning at home and ways I can extend what you do at home, in school. Also, the students and I always welcome visitors, so please feel free to contact me about joining us in our classroom for a visit or to lend an ear during reading time. Likewise, I may request help from time to time with projects and look forward to your involvement.

I’ll be in and out of our room during the week prior to school so feel free to stop in to check out your room, your locker or to help restock our book shelves; I could always use the extra help. Just call the school first to make sure I am in the building. You can contact me in a couple of ways: At school- (607) 326-4151 or e-mail – schumanc@roxburycsd.org

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter with your child and I thank you in advance for responding to it. I wish you well and look forward to meeting you this fall.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Schuman
