11-16-21 Superintendent's Update

November 16, 2021

Dear Parents, Students and the Roxbury School Community,

Just a quick update on a few things….

This past Monday our winter athletic season began.  It is great to see our students participating in the activities.  We have over 60 students participating in basketball (varsity and modified), cheerleading and skiing. We are having an athletic league meeting on Monday, November 22nd to discuss what the games will look like including spectators…more information to follow.

Thursday, November 18th students will be dismissed at 12:00.  This is our monthly professional development day for the staff.

Friday, November 19th will be parent/teacher conferences for students in grades PreK-6.  There will be no elementary classes that day.  These meetings have already been scheduled, so please contact your student’s teacher if you do not have a time. Students in grades 7-12 should be in school, as they will follow their normal schedule.

The Thanksgiving break will begin on Wednesday, November 24th.   I hope everyone has an enjoyable time with family.

Looking ahead, in December we are planning to hold a forum to learn about and discuss RCS getting a school-based health clinic.  Bassett Health Care will give a presentation at the Grand Gorge Fire Hall explaining and providing information about the services that could be offered with a clinic at the school.  The school board has already heard the presentation with the next step being a community presentation…more details to follow.

Beginning in January, we will have “Chats with the Superintendent”.  These casual, no-host, drop-in events are designed to give parents and community members an opportunity to meet with the Superintendent, as well as learn more about the important activities going on in the school.

Lastly, if you have been in the school recently you will notice a change to the Main Office.  Ms. Ten Eyck has relocated her office, and this space will now be used as a conference room.  Heather has also relocated, and will continue with her same duties.  Lisa Hubbard will now be in the Main Office, and we will be placing a second person in the office in December.  This will allow us to ensure the office is always covered and the phones are always answered.  One of the purposes of this move is that it will allow us to hold parent, CSE, disciplinary, and other meetings in person in Ms. Ten Eyck’s old office, without having people come into the main school building.  We need our parents and community to be more involved with the happenings in the school, and are excited to be able to have people start coming back into our building.

Enjoy the holiday break and stay safe and healthy,

Jeffrey J. Bennett
